Individual Support Services (ISS)

Service delivery to slum regions of Bangladesh.

Our student volunteers from schools across Bangladesh, including the Chittagong Grammar School, deliver service packages to children living in slums every month. Each package contains a school bag, educational materials created by our volunteers, pencils and crayons, a blanket, and a 20 pound bag of Chashi Aromatic Chinigura Rice. Since we deliver these packages every month, often times, our volunteers meet the same children they saw in past deliveries. These continued interactions are key to what we believe in and hope to achieve - meaningful, lasting relationships within the communities we want to empower and uplift.

One volunteer, Bushra R.' 25, recalls, "I met Mahin four months ago when I delivered to him his first package. Every time I see him, he shows me how much of the BDCF Mathematics & Literacy work books he has completed. When I first met him, he could not count, but now, he can add! I have had many heartfelt conversations with Mahin about what he wants to be. A doctor, he said. He wants to help his friends who can't afford treatment. I told him he could do it. He could do anything."

Slum children like Mahin in Bangladesh have dreams and ambition, but lack the opportunities to break the cycle of poverty and malnourishment. Through the service and connection to the outside world that BDCF provides, they are empowered to fight for their future. They will be the next generation of change-makers.

At BDCF, we believe that all children should have access to basic necessities and educational supplies. Truthfully, the need in Bangladesh can be overwhelming. As a society, we are often living under the idea of "Out of Site, Out of Mind" when we think about the millions of children and families living in inhumane conditions in slums. Be Desi Children's Foundation is changing that, one child at a time.
